Oracle Clusters with Novell

OCFS 2 to be Standard in Novell SuSE

Oracle will have its open-source Cluster File System rev 2 (OCFS 2)  included as a standard component in SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, putting Novell on a par with Red Hat, which has bundled OCFS for a while.

Linux 2.6 kernel maintainer Andrew Morton said he expected OCFS 2 will be distributed with version 2.6.14 of the public kernel. It will be the first clustering component to be added to the public kernel.

Oracle says OCFS 2 includes enhanced functionality that can ease system management while improving performance. It let all nodes in a cluster access a file system concurrently, which dramatically simplifies the management of databases shared across a cluster.
